Regions and availability zones

Converge Cloud has one region, luzon, and two availability zones, of which clz-1 is the newest. The two zones do not offer identical instance types. Converge Cloud recommends verifying instance-type availability in the target zone prior to resource allocation.

Region

The only region on Converge Cloud is luzon. DescribeRegions returns exactly one entry. A request with any X-TC-Region value other than luzon fails with InternalError. Each request must include the X-TC-Region header; a request that omits the header also fails with InternalError.

Availability zones

Instance type counts

DescribeInstanceTypeConfigs returns the instance type catalogue. DescribeZoneInstanceConfigInfos returns purchasable configurations, with a Status field per row. The two counts differ because a catalogued type does not necessarily have a purchasable configuration. In ncr-1, the catalogue lists 29 types and 21 types are purchasable; the DR3 family accounts for the difference. DescribeZoneInstanceConfigInfos is the recommended action for determining what can be launched.

Every type, with its specification, is listed under instance types. The difference in ncr-1 is the DR3 family, which is catalogued but has no purchasable configuration. DR3 is not offered in any other zone.

Actions that describe a zone

Three actions describe what a zone offers.

cvm:DescribeZonesThe zones that exist, with the ZoneId of each zone. The response can also include zones that offer no instance types and no available block storage.
cvm:DescribeZoneInstanceConfigInfosPurchasable configurations, with a Status of SELL or SOLD_OUT per type. Results can be filtered by zone with {"Name":"zone","Values":["clz-1"]}.
cbs:DescribeDiskConfigQuotaBlock storage per zone. Inspecting the Available field is recommended, because a zone can list a disk type and still not offer it.

Notes

Availability changes

Status is reported per zone and per instance type, and changes over time. M8A.45XLARGE1450 (180 vCPU / 1450 GB) currently has Status SOLD_OUT in ncr-1 and SELL in clz-1. An instance type that is unavailable in one zone is therefore not necessarily unavailable in the other zone. Converge Cloud recommends reading Status at request time rather than caching it.

ZoneId is a string; RegionId is a number

ZoneId is returned as a string ("50010001"), while tke:DescribeRegions returns RegionId as an integer (50000001). The two identifiers are not interchangeable.

Single region

Converge Cloud has one region. cbs:CopySnapshotCrossRegions is available but has no second region to target, and cross-region redundancy is not offered. Availability-zone separation within luzon is the only form of geographic redundancy.
